Miami Funk Machine
“P-Style” 4-string Electric Bass · 2024
The Story Behind This Custom P-Bass Build
This custom P-bass build started with a very specific vision: a bass that captured the spirit of a pair of teal and pink Vans sneakers the client wore in the ’80s. “The Miami Funk Machine” is our take on the iconic P-bass style — a custom P-bass build that pays homage to legends like James Jamerson while catering to the modern era.
The body is a classic P-style alder build, chosen for its warm, punchy midrange and thumping lows that sits perfectly in a funk mix. Wrapped in a stunning bright blue and pink color scheme with black hardware, it’s as bold as your basslines. Be seen AND be heard!
Choosing the right hardware was critical to nailing the modern feel the client wanted. The Hipshot KickAss high-mass bridge adds sustain and stability, while the Aguilar Powerhouse pickup delivers the punchy, articulate low-mids that define classic P-bass tone. The result is an instrument that looks like it belongs in 1985 but plays like it was built for today’s stage.
“It looks exactly like those shoes. I can’t stop smiling every time I pick it up.”
